So many very good books on watches and clocks, their care and repair, have been published in the last ten to fifteen years that, when It was suggested that I should set to work to add another, I was very dubious about its usefulness. However, the self-winding watch is one that has always interested me, and the types of mechanism are so ingenious and varied that it was decided that a description of how they work, and of any special care required, would be helpful to the repairer.
